Are you going to finance your home in San Jose?

Stressed out about applying for a mortgage? You don't have to be. I've got great connections to many lending companies in San Jose, and they've helped me realize some things that can make the process of applying for a loan effortless.

1 – Assemble a list of questions about your loan program

Be sure you have a list of questions with you if you find that you do not completely understand the ins and outs of the various programs. I or one of my lender contacts can help you understand the advantages and disadvantages of each program, because it can be hard to understand the distinctions between fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Determine when you want to lock

By locking in an interest rate, a mortgage lender is holding to the interest rates for the loan – normally at the time the loan application is received. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate at any time between the loan application day and issuance of closing documents. Buyers who opt to float presume that the interest rates will fall in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.

3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to decrease your interest rate

If you opt to pay additional points to lower the rate of your mortgage loan, you will pay for them in cash at the time of closing. Each point is 1 percent of the loan. Click here to use our points calculator. It will help you determine if buying points is right for you.

4 – Bring your paperwork

Acquiring a loan requires lots of paperwork, so you should take some time to get your documents together. Click here to preview typical information that goes on a loan application.
